Outreach & Teaching

 Outreach

I have participated in several K-12 outreach activities. One of these outreach activities is the Evolutionary Morphology of Skulls and Teeth module. This module is designed to engage local students in science and increase their understanding on evolutionary biology by teaching organismal adaptation and specialization to different environments. Simultaneously, we encourage young students to discover science through hands-on learning and develop skills necessary for STEM careers, such as critical thinking. For more information see Moczek lab Outreach.

I have also participated in several outreach events (Bug Fest, Wonder Lab camp, Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Wonder Lab, and Science Fest) teaching dung beetle and insect biology and diversity. The most recent one was Indiana University’s Science Fest, where I organized and led an exhibit on dung beetle biology. There was an amazing event attendance of 1,409 visitors!

During the summer of 2018, I taught a Zoology course for the Foundation of Science and Math program, an IU program for local, upcoming high school students looking to improve their science and math skills. For more information go to
FSM.
